Oftentimes I find myself creating server-based virtual appliances, that is virtual machines with a server-oriented operating system as the guest OS. Most of the time I have a good reason -or at least a reasonable excuse- for doing so. For example, I may want a flexible testbed to learn about and/or experiment with a technology which is new to me, like I’ve done in the past with Linux’s logical volume manager and Oracle’s ZFS filesystem.
It’s really common for people to make mistakes. Some of us make just a lot of them. And when we do, the question of course is whether or not we can do something about it. Now, I don’t know about you, but I always prefer solving my problems after understanding what went wrong.
One of the new features the recent major release of openSUSE brought with it that *really* caught my attention is the ability to turn the distribution into a rolling one, effectively bringing it to the camp of the likes of Gentoo and Arch.
Mindlessly surfing from an insecure location such as a coffee shop, a hotel room or even your workplace? Sure you are and we can understand the need -and oftentimes the urge- to be online. Hopefully, there’s an easy way to have all the security of the world and check your email and/or surf the web at the same time.
A new major version of Debian Linux is finally cooked and already served to all who favor quality over novelty. But wait. This time around Debian offers an extremely interesting, novel flavor.
